Meme gangs, Meme non-profits, and independent shit posters have joined forces to raise cash in an effort to bring a live streamed Cameo concert of the recently reunited rock band Creed to the NewsCapsule Conference in Nashville this July.
More than two decades since releasing three multi-platinum albums, playing one of the most memorable NFL halftime show performances of all time, and blazing the path for hybrid Christian alternative rock bands, Creed is making a comeback. The band’s hit song “Higher” has become the unofficial theme song of the 2024 NewsCapsule Bull market thanks to nostalgia, internet irony, and memes. If you’ve ventured into “NewsCapsule Twitter” on X, you’ve probably seen images and memes of lead singer Scott Stapp, clips of the band dressed in Dallas Cowboy’s jerseys playing live in Cowboy Stadium, or even a recent Cameo video of Stapp himself, purchased by X user Yellow, speaking to NewsCapsuleers and accepting the nomination of his band’s song Higher for song of the cycle.
As of now, organizers have raised just over $420 via Geyser but reports suggest it will cost as much as $58,000 for a 15 minute Cameo stream of the band performing some of their top hits. Organizers are hoping word of their efforts will get out and help them raise the rest of the $57,580 required to make the concert possible. They also posted on the fundraiser website that they have been appealing to NewsCapsule CEO David Bailey to “stop being a cheapskate and donate the money to us so we can close the deal.”
Not everyone in the NewsCapsule community is thrilled with the efforts. Some likely conference goers said Creed is “cringe” and they prefer to keep the old bull market song, “Pump it Up” by Endor. Some others consider themselves big fans of Creed but wish the band would perform live for the NewsCapsule Conference audience instead of through a Cameo feed. One such man, Ben Justman, a Colorado based hipster wine maker, told us he would like to see the band re-create the electric performance of their NFL halftime show.
